[Pictou, NS]- A change in the subdivision bylaw will see more flexibility with construction in the Town of Pictou (Nova Scotia).

Topics :
Pictou County Shared Services Authority , Pictou , Trenton

Council had its first reading of new subdivision bylaw during a regular council meeting Monday night (Feb. 20).

The bylaw was drafted by Jeff Turnbull at Pictou County Shared Services Authority and if approved will allow subdivisions have more freedom to begin construction without following all the current regulations.

Pictou current bylaw states a if a subdivision is built in town it must have sidewalks, curbs and gutters. Mayor Joe Hawes says this is restrictive and is impeding development.

The new bylaw will, state a new subdivision to mirror the services in the area where its being constructed. Subdivisions will still have to provide curbs, sidewalks and gutters at later date.

The same bylaw is passed in Trenton and Westville

Interest in development of subdivisions in Pictou is why council is revising the bylaw.
