[KENTVILLE, NS] — A press release from the agency’s board this afternoon indicates the board of directors voted July 11 to terminate operations on or before March 31, 2013.
Board chairwoman Cathy Reid indicated in the July 13 release that the regional development agency’s directors would have preferred to keep the RDA going while the province reviews rural economic development funding.
However, the board members felt recent funding decisions left the agency with no choice.
May 21, ACOA announced it would cut core funding to Atlantic Canada’s RDA in May 2013.
June 11, Kings County gave notice it would also pull funding next spring.
“Recognizing that the towns of Berwick, Kentville, and Wolfville could not alone sustain the organization as currently constitute,” the release stated, “the directors decided to terminate operations no later than the end of the current funding cycle, March 31, 2013.”
The four municipalities are scheduled to meet Aug. 1 “to discuss ‘future collaborations.’”
