[HALIFAX, NS] — A Quebec company is pouring $27 million into a new boutique hotel connected to the Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

Groupe Germain Hospitality announced yesterday it plans to open a 169-room hotel connected to the airport via an enclosed pedestrian walkway. The hotel will be built on the departures side, just off of the parkade.

Construction is set to begin soon, and the company expects to have the hotel operational by early 2013.

The hotel will be operated under ALT hotels, a banner of Groupe Germain Hospitality, which currently owns seven hotels in Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto and Calgary.

“We’ve been looking to make inroads into the dynamic Halifax market for some time now,” said Christiane Germain, in a release.

Southwest Properties and New Castle Hotels had previously planned a more than 170-room hotel for the site — but that deal fell through in early 2010.

“(Groupe Germain) came forward a few months later,” said Peter Spurway, spokesman for the HIAA.
“We’ve been looking forward to having a hotel attached to the terminal for quite a long time. So we’re tickled.”

Wow! It sounds like this will be a beautiful hotel once it is all finished. And it's especially nice that it will be an airport hotel. Does anybody know when it is scheduled to be finished by? ( http://montecarloinns.com )
