[SYDNEY, NS] — A Cape Breton company is the creative force behind a new website designed to become an online entrepreneurial hub for people around the globe. Sydney-based MediaSpark Inc. has a launched an Entrepreneur Oasis website (www.EntreOasis.com), featuring a member-generated collection of entrepreneurship resources on a social-networking platform.
"With the success of social networking websites like Facebook and LinkedIn and Amazon and Wikipedia and so on, what we've done is taken the best features of those websites and focus them specifically on entrepreneurship," explained MediaSpark CEO Mathew Georghiou.
With so many online sources and sites containing bits and pieces of information on entrepreneurship, Georghiou said www.EntreOasis.com is aimed at taking the challenge out of finding information on the subject. Describing it as one-stop shopping for entrepreneurial resources, Georghiou said their website should appeal to a wide range of people — from the teacher looking for educational entrepreneurship material, to the aspiring entrepreneur looking for a business plan template.
He noted they currently have about 1,000 resources on the site including best practices, case studies, videos, podcasts, templates, lesson plans and simulations. And now that the website has been launched to the world, people will be continually adding to it and contributing additional resources.
Entrepreneur Oasis was designed, produced and will be managed by staff at MediaSpark in Sydney, and Fortune 100 company, Cisco, has come on board as the site's founding sponsor. "We own the intellectual property and we own everything that's related to the site and Cisco is the founding sponsor so they provided funding to essentially have their logo and their messaging be put on the website itself," said Georghiou.
The project took about a year to complete and MediaSpark is excited to add the website to their growing list of groundbreaking product lines. "It's actually a concept that we've had on the drawing board for a few years, waiting for the right partner or sponsor to come around. The timing was right in terms of some of the initiatives they (Cisco) were doing on a global level and we pitched the idea to them of Oasis, and for them to become the founding sponsor," he noted.
Mediaspark is an award-winning software development, publishing and consulting company focused on business and financial products. Given that focus, Georghiou said they're actually positioned really well to thrive during the current economic downturn. "The timing is really interesting for us because our core area where we develop products is in entrepreneurship and personal finance and that's what everybody is talking about, given the financial circumstances that are going on," he said.
The company currently has 12 employees and Georghiou expects that number to grow.
"We're not one that's looking at downsizing or anything like that. We're actually hoping to be hiring people in the next number of months."
